About David & Dad

Tavali. A strange word my Småland grandmother taught me as a child. She lived a good life in the countryside outside Kalmar in South Sweden, but was marked by the many difficult times that Moberg describes so well in his emigrant epic. Grandma also traveled to America. As a 16-year-old, right after the First World War. However, she returned a few years later. She brought many exciting stories with her, and she always served the waffles with syrup. But tavali, she was that all her life, like so many others in the countryside in Småland.

Being tavali is nice. It roughly means "taking care of everything". Nothing must perish. But it has nothing to do with stinginess. You eat what you put on your plate. Drying apples in oven, canning and composting. It can also be festive. When you brush the buns with egg yolk, you make meringues from the egg white.

Over the years, I too have become more and more tavali and that has shaped my career choices. On a daily basis, I run a company that focuses on consulting in the energy sector. We are active in around 20 countries and clearly notice that the world is becoming increasingly tavali when it comes to energy. Reducing the consumption of energy is not only crucial from a climate perspective. It is also about economy and securing welfare.

My Småland heritage is also the basis for David&Dad, a small company I started a few years ago together with my son. We take care of furniture and old things. Fixing and renovating. Painting and varnishing. Cleaning and Polishing. We buy, sell and rent. We are simply tavali. And to our great joy, we notice that we are not alone. The world is finally becoming tavali again. Wear and tear is passé. As my grandmother would smile.
